How hilarious would it be for there to be a combo of these two shows!!?? This thought came to me while watching three episodes back to back (four is too many) of X-Files season one - then watching tonight's episode of The Bachelor. Kind of cracked me up...anyway - not why I'm writing.
Two observations -
1. The Bachelor - I'm amazed at how close the final five grils have gotten. Now it is down to three girls and they aren't bratty to each other. In fact its the total opposite - its almost like they are in some sort of sorority. They enjoy hanging out with each other during the "off" time...really wondering if that is going to change. I also really like how their outfits are coordinated for dates...brown/brown...flanel, etc. Its totally hilarious. Further more - I really hope that when Deanna shows back up, one of the other girls punches her out. Now THAT would be good television.
2. X-Files - So i'm just now getting on the X-Files bandwagon. I'm on disk 6 of the first season and it is taking a long time to get through these episodes. Truth of the matter is - The Truth is Out There...HA. Anyway - Very curious to see if David Ducovney is always right? He always has a hunch that is always correct in the end? I like the episodes where Skully is suddenly right. - I want more of that. Regardless of how much I love the Foxy Fox.
So - it may seem from my blog all I do is TV and Music. Well...its not true. But none-the-less, time for a recap and my opinion on current TV.
Grey's Anatomy - What the hell has happened? That said...It is turning back around. With the exception of the whole Izzy story, which is terrible, aweful, terrible, the rest of the story line and dialouge is picking up. At the risk of sounding twisted, the entire serial killer three episode was controversial, but solid. A bold twist. I was impressed. I like the continued depth of Merideth Grey - she's dark and as a basic happy/light person, I can appreciate the yang. Speaking of Yang - Christina continues to have a solid story line. Love that Derek realizes the importance of the best friend...so key. Now I sound like a silly girl so i'll move on.
Private Practice - Love Addison, just love her. Even though she is a cheater. Love that her SWAT team boyfriend is Christopher formerly of the Gilmore Girls and I will be sad when they end that relationship - which seems inevitable. While Iris regularly irritates me, I can handle her more these days. I love Cooper and the Southern Belle. Taye Diggs is yummy too. Big thing about this show and while it is highly unlikely that producers and writes are reading my blog - STOP KILLING CHILDREN! It has been three or four episodes now and the kids always are dying. Can't take it anymore. It is too much. They had a very succesful first season without baby death - I suggest that. ALSO - this week's episode - Addison delivers a baby who gets stuck...literally stuck. Not kidding - this happened to my brother. Apparenly my parents had a better doctor than Addison, considering they gave my mother three options - 1. c-section, 2. break his collar bone, 3. break my mother's pelvic bone. Not just push the baby back in and perform a c-section! Drama! Anyway - I'm still watching.
LOST - My husband compared it to a show (concert) - range of emotions, telling yourself that while it is amazing and mind blowing, you find yourself saing that you have to breath, remember to exhale. We'll see how this season goes - but we have high hopes. It is almost exhausting being this commited - even with DVR. After watching the show we were discussing how you really cannot start watching this show this season. You will literally have no idea what is going on. There is in fact NO WAY to really understand and know what is going on. You have to start at Season 1. You may have been able to jump in at season 2 - but now its just to far. If you want to be watching Lost - netflix it man. That's your option to catch up. Then get fully caught up online.
Chelsea Lately - I watch every episode the day after - as I am usually asleep by the time it airs. She's hilarious - would recomend the full half hour as a panel. Its fabulous.
Leverage - Timothy Hutton is fantastic. I love the whole premise of the show. Given that Private Practice is killing children - it is nice to have a a show that is doing good for people. It has a solid "Robin Hood" feel to it. The characters are almost superhero like, as far as characterization goes (they all have their specialty skills. Its great - and it is compartmentalized so you can watch them indiviually. There is absolutely a common thread that runs between - but you can catch one at random and enjoy it.
How I Met Your Mother - It isn't a secret anymore. Everyone knows how fabulous this show is. I love all the characters, all the actors, its great. Watch it.
I have a bunch of reality TV that I love too - but I'm just not going to get into it. So quick listing;
Mama's Boys - Wow. Twisted.
The Bachelor - I love Bears...All Bears
The Girl's Next Door - Who doesn't love this
The Millionaire Matchmaker - Starts mid-Feb - I can't wait
Million Dollar Listing - The biggest egos in the room - can't wait till it starts up again
True Beauty - Whoa - yes people like that do exist
Was just making a list of the upcoming shows for my little brother in his new college town. Robert Randolph and the Family Band are playing in a near town in a few weeks. I sent the link to him and said "Saw Robert Randolph in San Francisco and it probably ranks up to be one of my top 10 shows."
I have seen so many shows, starting at age 14, and there are so many people/bands I've yet to see it got me thinking - what are my top 10 shows? In absolutely no particular order (because that would be too much):
- Derek Trucks Band at The Independent in San Francisco
- BB King in Telluride, Co
- North Mississippi Allstars at The Abbey in Durango, Co or at the Fly Me To The Moon Saloon in Telluride, Co
- Jamiroquai at the Filmore in San Francisco
- Beastie Boys at The Greek in Berkley
- Robert Randolph and the Family Band at The Warfield in San Francisco

- Tone Loc at Levelz in Steamboat Springs, Co
- String Cheese Incident, Steamboat Springs, Co
- Karl Denson and the Tiny Universe/The Greyboy Allstars in Steamboat Springs, Vail and Aspen, Co
Folks who should have made the top ten list - off the top of my head - i'm sure there are hundreds of others...
- My Morning Jacket at the Filmore in San Francisco - NYE
- Les Claypool at the Filmore in San Francisco - NYE
- Alpha Blonde in Aspen, Co
- Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Levelz in Steamboat Springs, Co

- Outkast at the Filmore in Denver, Co
- Ray LaMontagne and Rachel Yamagata at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Ca

Lastly - who are the people I need to see before they stop playing music for whatever reason:

- Aretha Franklin
- Joni Mitchell
- Carol King
- Linda Rondstadt
- Cypress Hill

What are your first thoughts upon waking?

Crap...
p.s. I am SOOO not a morning person.
I've always had this habit of writing phrases, words, lyrics or quotes down for safe keeping. "A rainy day thought" I used to call them. I suppose that is why my entire life I was sure I was going to be a writer. I went from Creative Writing major with an emphasis in poetry (HA!) to English Education major (Bigger HA!) to English Communications major with an emphasis in journalist (realistic) to Tech Public Relations (i seriously don't stop laughing).
The thing about PR is that it is about as close as you can get to journalism without having to get your hands dirty, feet wet (pick a metaphor). I get to write the quotes instead of capture them, I still get to come up with story ideas (brainstorming is the fun part) without having to write the story - so much so that when a story comes out that we've pitched, we save it as our own in what I call the "glory file." It is interesting, considering the only thing I really feel that is me writing is this blog, which I frequent once every two months. :-)
I take pride in a "good" email, plans are a new sense of accomplishment as well. Press releases are always something that make you feel like you have "created" something (unless of course it is a fluff release). It has certainly been an interesting journey to get to PR.
In 2003, on my birthday, my sister gave me a green Moleskine Notebook (http://www.moleskineus.com/). For those of you that don't have a Moleskine or rather have never had one - you are MISSING OUT. Go forth and purchase one immediately. I don't know what it is about these little books, they just have a spell on you. For as long as I can remember I capture quotes (as said above), so much so that people took notice. My close friends all knew I had this book as I would be scribbling away in the corner, trying to capture as much of any moment as I could possibly contain.
As my wedding day approaches, I've been trying to identify readings for the ceremony and remembered that my little green moleskin contains quotes from things I read in college from my literature classes. Authors like Whitman and Thoreau; musicians like Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, B.B. King and yes...Fiona Apple (didn't see that coming did you?) Aside from the pages being adorned with Sex and the City quotes (LOVED the movie BTW) and other random movies reminiscent of my college years, I flipped through pages and pages of other quotes...
Things from conversations I had with my college friends, pieces of conversations overheard in classes, at parties, in the local coffee shop. I wrote so much down it was silly. By far the one person quoted more than Sex and the City and Bob Dylan...Paul Pavich. My beloved professor who made Romantic literature memorable and Post-modern literature...doable. I found myself laughing out loud on BART (Bay Area Transit) remembering him saying these random outbursts of entertainment. And therefore...I must share:
"I used to be a pacifist, but what's the point"
"Edgar Allen Poe is coming to save you"
"Celibacy can be fun...I keep trying to tell you that"
"This class should be called drugs in American Literature - basically if you are into drugs then you will know what the writer is talking about."
"We have a drunk opium addict telling us a story we are supposed to believe"
"Emerson said 'We have to get rid of Christ.' Hawthorne said 'Fuck you Emerson...' Just kidding, I wanted to see if you all were listening."
"You remember Lord Byron, he's the one that humped his way across Europe"
"I don't have a 5 page paper and I have no idea who I am..."
"When you all hand in your finals, I'm just going to start giggling and your going to ask what and I'm going to say 'nothing'"
"If your not laughing at anything then it disturbs me more. I feel like I'm teaching in an asylum."
"By the end, everything will have connected, you'll have the truth and you can go and graduate"
I'm not sure if any of this is amusing to you...but I needed to capture some of the things that a. kept me awake in an 8 am literature class b. keep me interested in some really dull and wordy-ass classic American literature c. helped me graduate and actually have intelligent conversations about this literature later on in life (or at least crack a good joke).
Thanks Paul...
Tell me something, it is Spring time and for some reason STARZ has The Holiday running on repeat. I've watched it three nights in a row now. Here is the other silly thing, I OWN it. Why watch this over and over. During "the holidays" it was also on repeat and I watched it just as often. I'm not quite sure why I keep tuning in to this movie, but I think it has something to do with L.A.
I've also been watching on DVD "Brothers and Sisters." I'm still on the first season via Netflix and only through the fourth disc - excellent show. Can't believe how fabulous of a match Sally Fields and Calista Flockhart are as a mother/daughter team.
Both movies talk about the Santa Ana winds. I'm suddenly desperate to experience them. They mention of them remind me of the winds that bring the chocolate maker away in "Chocolat." At any rate, I'm beginning to create an idea of what LA is in my head...I need to sort it out. :-)
Perhaps a weekend trip is in order in the coming weeks. A bit of sunshine, a bit of shopping, a bit of spa and a bit of tan may be just the answer to helping me come to my senses of the LA ways.
Maybe that is what I'm tryin to get to...The Holiday, Brothers and Sisters and LA - I guess my sister and I will need to head to LA!

My JRT is Puma! She's 8lbs and absolutely wonderful!!
My parents have two Jack Russells - Oscar and Oakley...they like whip cream...
Oscar enjoys hanging out and chatting and riding on the dashboard of the car....
Hard to beat that level of cuteness...
PUMA, however, is much cuter on a day to day.... :-)
This video has been on my myspace profile for awhile until just recently - but I want to make sure that it is captured appropriately - somewhere where I can see it whenever I want...other than Youtube.
Barking Cat:
YAY!!! We came, we saw, we kicked their ass!!
I have pictures from the games, tons of them, however as I am still in CO and unable to upload at the moment, my World Series post will have to be left with the ultimate rally cry.....
JUB JUB!!!
I LOVE Jonathan Papelbon (Red Sox Closer Pitcher). Not only is he just an amazing person, ball player, etc, but this video pretty much sums up how friggin awesome he is. GO SOX!!!
This makes me want to go work for MasterCard's Advertising Department - what was this brainstorm like and how AWESOME that they use Parliament. The way the kids "walk" down the hallway at the end, makes me excited to have children one day.
ENJOY!!!
